EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
POTENTIALLY HOSTILE SITUATION - UNITED STATES (U.S.) FLIGHT
OPERATIONS INTO, OUT OF, OR OVER SYRIA.
U.S. OPERATORS AND AIRMEN SHOULD AVOID OPERATING IN THE
DAMASCUS FLIGHT INFORMATION REGION (FIR) DUE TO ONGOING MILITARY ACTIVITY.
THERE IS SIGNIFICANT RISK TO THE SAFETY OF INTERNATIONAL CIVIL FLIGHTS
OPERATING WITHIN THE DAMASCUS FIR (OSDI).
INFORMATION FROM THE INTERNATIONAL CIVIL AVIATION
ORGANIZATION AND OPEN SOURCE REPORTS OF SURFACE TO AIR MISSLE FIRINGS, AS WELL
AS MILITARY ACTIVITY IN THE VICINITY OF AIRFIELDS, INDICATES OPERATING IN THE
DAMASCUS FIR IS HAZARDOUS TO FLIGHT OPERATIONS.
U.S. OPERATORS OR AIRMEN PLANNING TO FLY INTO, OUT OF,
WITHIN OR OVER SYRIA MUST OBTAIN CURRENT THREAT INFORMATION, COMPLY WITH ALL
APPLICABLE FAA REGULATIONS AND DIRECTIVES, AND PROVIDE ADVANCE NOTICE TO THE
FAA AT AEO-CITEWATCH@FAA.GOV WITH SPECIFIC FLIGHT DETAILS.
ADDITIONALLY, U.S. OPERATORS MUST REPORT SECURITY INCIDENTS
TO THE FAA AT +1 202-493-5833 OR +1 202-267-3333.THE SECURITY CONDITIONS IN
SYRIA FOR U.S. OPERATORS AND THE NEED FOR THIS SPECIAL NOTICE WILL BE
RE-EVALUATED BY 30 NOVEMBER 2013.
